Frequently Asked Questions

What are polaroids (polas) and where does the name come from?

Polas or polaroids are the single most important photos for any model. Originally, they got their name from instant Polaroid cameras, where photos printed on the spot without any chance to edit them. Today, they are unretouched, unfiltered photos taken with clean, neutral lighting so agencies and brands can see exactly what you look like naturally. They are also called digitals or snapshots.

What are the basic rules for polaroids?

  • No makeup or retouching: No makeup (at most a super subtle base) and zero digital edits or filters.
  • Neutral clothing & no push-ups:
    • Option 1: Jeans/shorts with a neutral top or t-shirt (preferably black).
    • Option 2: A simple black bikini or one-piece swimsuit (no sheer fabric, no padding/push-up, and nothing overly revealing).
  • Natural nails: Preferably clean with no flashy nail polish.
  • Neutral background: A plain white wall, smooth surface, or white brick wall.
  • Show all your angles: Frontal, profile (both sides), and back shots—both serious and smiling, with your hair down and pulled back (showing your ears). Include headshots, three-quarter, and full-length shots.
  • Pro tip: Wearing a small pair of black heels is allowed to help improve your posture.

How can I take my own polas at home with a phone?

  • Get someone to help you and find a white wall with plenty of natural light (facing a large window).
  • Avoid wide-angle lenses: Don't get too close to prevent facial distortion. Use the main camera or 2x optical zoom on your phone. Turn off all beauty filters.
  • Keep the frame straight and make sure the skin tones look true to life.

Why hire a professional photographer for your polas?

While phone photos work, polas taken by a professional with proper lighting, correct focal length, and crisp focus are your best calling card. They keep your body proportions accurate and project a level of polish and serious effort that helps you stand out in any casting call. You can find a profesional photographer here.

How should I take my measurements?

  • Do it in the morning: That's the best time, before eating or holding water weight.
  • Height: Barefoot, standing straight against a wall.
  • Bust: Around the fullest part of your chest.
  • Waist: Around the narrowest part of your abdomen (just above the belly button).
  • Hips: Around the widest part of your hips/glutes.
  • Weight: On an empty stomach right after waking up.

What is a selftape and how do I upload it?

A selftape is a short video introduction (20-30 seconds). In it, you state your name, age, height, location, show your profiles, and walk toward the camera.

  • How to add it: Record it on your phone, upload it to YouTube (you can set it to "Unlisted" if you don't want it public on your channel), and paste the link into your ModelPolas profile.

Is it completely free?

YES, 100% FREE! No commissions, no hidden subscriptions, no intrusive ads, and no middleman. Your custom profile link (modelpolas.com/your-name) is yours forever.

How often should I update my polaroids?

You should upload a new set whenever you have a major physical or style change (haircut/color, weight change, new tattoos). Either way, updating them every 3 to 6 months is best practice.
